An American Airlines Boeing 777 touches down at Raleigh-Durham International.
Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) provides service to the Raleigh-Durham metropolitan areas. There are over 500 flights daily out of RDU to forty-four domestic and international destinations. The airport has a new terminal scheduled to open in October of 2008 to provide the latest in airport design, including electronic check-in kiosks and over twenty five new shops and restaurants. There are also two observation decks opened to the public. The first is located near the air-traffic control counter and broadcasts the air traffic communication over speakers. The second is located in the General Aviation Terminal and includes both indoor and outdoor viewing and features the CrossWinds Café.
RDU is served by ten major airlines, and seventeen regional carriers including: AirTran Airlines, Continental & Continental Express, Delta & Delta Connection, JetBlue, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, US Airways & US Airways Express, Air Canada & Air Canada Jazz, Amer ican & American Eagle, United & United Express.
The Raleigh Amtrak Station (RGH) is located at 320 West Cabbarus Street, a block from the Convention Center and is the second busiest rail station in the south east. It is served by three trains: the Silver Star, the Carolinian and the Piedmont.
The The Silver Star runs from New York to Miami, and serves stations through the eastern corridor. The Carolinian offers service from Charlotte to New York, including many stations in the north eastern corridor and Virginia. The Piedmont service runs between Raleigh and Charlotte, and provides service inside North Carolina, including: Cary, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, High Point, Salisbury, and Kannapolis.
Greyhound Lines’ busses serve thirty seven hundred locations inside the United States, and through their partner Greyhound Canada serve another twelve hundred Canadian locations. The Raleigh station is located approximately three blocks from the Convention Center.
The publicly owned and operated Capital Area Transit (CAT) provides a cheap and easy way to move around Raleigh. Service is provided throughout the city of Raleigh, and all traffic that goes down town stops through the historic Moore Square Transit Station. Fare is one dollar. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, between 5:30pm and 11:30pm, the city of Raleigh also provides the free Showtime Trolley. The Trolley provides service to downtown entertainment venues.
